    Matthías Páli (8 November 2010)

Will we see more from Shara or the Land of the Madmen?

    Interview: 2011

    Twitter 2011 (WoT) (Verbatim)

    Andrew Sullivan (10 January 2011)

Will far off lands like Shara or the Land of Madmen play an important role in the last book?

    Brandon Sanderson (10 January 2011)

RAFO. Though RJ said we'd never go to Shara, at least not in any major way. He was less firm on the Madmen.

    Interview: Nov 11th, 1997

    Jason Verner from TX

Do you have any plans for introducing the Land of Madmen into the Wheel of Time series besides its mention in the Guide, and if so can you elaborate a little?

    Robert Jordan

    Read and Find Out.

    Interview: Nov 11th, 2000

    Ryan Foley from Lawrence, Mass.

If you were going to be stranded on the Island of Madmen and could only take one book with you, what book would it be?

    Robert Jordan

I think a book on camouflage. Hiding there would be a good idea, I think.

    Interview: Nov 11th, 2000

    David from Austin

When will the Land of Madmen (as shown in the Guide) come into play, and are you considering ever making a second edition of the Guide?

    Robert Jordan

As for when or if it will come into play, read and find out. As for another edition of the guide, I would like to do a concordance or encyclopedia when the cycle is finished, but I have no plans before that.

    Interview: Dec 12th, 2000

    CNN Chat (Verbatim)

    Cameo_Vox

The Land of Madmen is mentioned in the coffee table book. Do you have any plans on incorporating it into one of the next books?

    Robert Jordan

Read and find out! There are some things I might do that might take place there, but those things could also just as well be done in other places.

    Interview: Apr, 2003

    Budapest Q&A (Verbatim)

    Question

There is one place, one continent, you wrote about it only in the Guide. It’s the Land of Madmen. What is this?

    Robert Jordan

It is a place where was never was a White Tower, or any other organization of Aes Sedai, to effect any control over men who could channel. Therefore, no civilization was able to rise up there again after the Breaking. It is still a place where men who can channel can be found (much more). [They are] hunted by women who can channel, because they’re very dangerous. Anybody else, for that matter, if they can find a way to kill them. It’s like, if you find out you have a tiger loose in your neighborhood and you have to kill it. You can’t leave it running loose; somebody has to kill it.

    Interview: Sep 4th, 2005

    Question

Do males with the spark also become wilders with blocks then?

    Robert Jordan

It depends, a woman born with the spark that doesn't get trained, she may become a wilder, she may or may not have a block, but quite often does. A man born with a spark is probably much more likely to go up and become a false Dragon, frankly, but uh, at least before the Black Tower opened up for business. But there are blocks among the men as well. We had one of the characters, one of the men who was one of the first Asha'man, one of the first to come to the Black Tower and is since deceased. He would not believe that what he channeled at, that he could affect anything he could not see. Thus he limited the range, he could not thus make a lightning bolt that hit on the other side of the hill because he could not see.

    Matt Hatch

[Tape ended] Other side, Jordan discussed the Land of Madmen, that blocks in men were one of the reason the isle/continent still remains.

    Interview: Dec, 2010

    Lordjuss

Finally, a little request... The Land of the Madmen is mentioned in the Guide but never in the series itself. It would be lovely if it could at least be mentioned in one of the books.

    Brandon Sanderson

    Your request is under consideration.

    Interview: Apr, 2013

    Question

Based on the weather of the different lands, it seems like Randland is in the northern hemisphere of the planet. Are there lands to the south of Randland? The Seanchan came from the West across the Aryth Ocean—is Shara on their western border?

    Maria Simons

There is a map of the whole world of The Wheel of Time in The World of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time; it shows Randland to be almost totally in the northern hemisphere, with a small southern portion of Shara being in the southern hemisphere. Below Randland, at apparently the same longitude though covering a much smaller area, is the Land of Madmen. Seanchan is spread over the northern and southern hemispheres, and on its western border is the Morenal Ocean; that ocean is also the eastern border of Shara.

    Interview: Apr 20th, 2013

    Terez

Will there be anything more about the Land of Madmen in the Encyclopedia, or is the Guide all we get?

    Maria Simons

To the best of my knowledge, the Guide is all you get. There might be a sentence more somewhere, but not extensive information.
